Marked by quickness and range in the outfield, was an exceptional base stealer and respected for his smart play.

The left fielder and leadoff hitter for manager Oscar Charleston with the Harrisburg Giants of the Eastern Colored League from 1923 to 1927, when he averaged well over .300 at the plate.

A good contact hitter who concluded his 20-year career with a lifetime batting average of .324. Selected to the East squad for the inaugural 1933 East West All Star game, earning a second appearance in the mid-season classic in 1935.

A two sport superstar, he captained the Harlem Renaissance Five basketball powerhouses of the 1920s and 1930s
