Dismukes, William - Dizzy

WILLIAM ‘DIZZY’ DISMUKES
1890-1961

Dismukes had a 37-year career in Negro League baseball that spanned all aspects of the game. He began in 1913 as a submarine pitcher with the Philadelphia Giants and played until the early 1930s.

He then spent 20 years as a coach, manager, team business manager, and, ultimately, secretary of the Negro National League. While overseas during WWI, he reputedly taught major leaguer Carl Mays how to pitch.
