Negro League Legends Hall of Fame Groundbreaking Ceremony
Walter "Buck" Leonard Memorial Hall

Saturday, August 14, 2004, the Negro League Legends hall of Fame will have their groundbreaking Ceremony at 913 12th Street, N.E. Washington, D.C., at 11:00 a.m.

The vision of the Negro League Legends Hall of Fame is to educate young and old about the contributions of the Negro League Legends in American Baseball History. There were over 3,000 Negro League Legends from the 1920's to the middle of the 1960's.  They were the pioneers in a league of some of the greatest players to play the game of baseball. Segregation kept them from playing in the white major leagues until Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.  Prior to the 1920's, blacks and whites played America's game together, just as they do now. The N.L.L.H.O.F. will feature Legendary Sportswriter Sam Lacy's Tribute "Negro League Baseball" and the Rutherford Hayes Jones Collection Colored Professional Baseball early 1900's prior Negro League Baseball.  There will be a one-of-a-kind research center dedicated to all of the Negro League Legends, Major, Minor and those who barnstormed as a salute to playing for the love of the game.
