ANDREW ‘ANDY’ L. COOPER

Andrew pitched 19 of 22 seasons in the Negro leagues, including nine years with the Detroit Stars and 10 with the Monarchs. He posted more than 10 wins seven times.

The all-time leader in saves with 29. Led the Negro National League several times in saves. The Detroit Stars all-time leader in all pitching categories. Traded to Kansas City for five players in 1928.

Posted a 116-57 record, good for a .671 winning percentage Often pitched three games in a five-game series, starting two and relieving another. Equivalent record per season is 16-8. In the California Winter League, Cooper pitched in 43 games over six seasons with a record of 22-6, a .786 winning percentage.

February 27, 2006 Andrew Cooper elected to Baseball Hall of Fame.

COOPERSTOWN, NY: A committee of 12 Negro and pre-Negro leagues baseball historians elected 17 candidates to the National Baseball Hall of Fame today in Tampa, Fla., featuring 12 players and five executives. The 17 electees will be honored in Cooperstown, New York, during Induction Ceremonies on July 30, 2006
