WILMER ‘RED’ FIELDS

Wilmer Fields was a star pitcher and third baseman for Washington, D.C.’s Homestead Grays in the Negro Leagues from 1939 to 1950 and played on eight championship teams.

He was a member of the Negro League East-West All-Star team in1948, won the Venezuelan Batting Title in 1951-52, the Venezuelan Triple Crown in 1952-53 and was an unprecedented 8 time MVP in various leagues.

Now president of the Negro Leagues Players Association, Fields oversees a pension fund established for former players and works to perpetuate the League’s place in American culture.

Fields is the author of My Life in the Negro Leagues: An Autobiography, a first-hand account of the Negro League, its players, and life as a travelling baseball player.
