Dec. 18, 2005–January 7, 2006 (ALEXANDRIA, VA) - The National Pastime in Black and White: The Negro Baseball League, 1867-1955. Exhibit's 60 photographs and selection of rare artifacts acquaint visitors with great athletes who were good enough - but not white enough - to play in the major leagues so they formed their own teams and league. January 13 - January 21, 2006 (TAMPA, FL) - The Negro Baseball Leagues Exhibit will be on display as the Living History Exhibit showcase of the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival. The festival takes place from January 13th - 21st, 2006 in Tampa, FL. Several Negro League Baseball exhibits and players are scheduled for this event.

February 4, 2006 (SEGUIN, TX) - The stars at night will be big and bright at the All Star Baseball Night in Seguin on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006. Five former Major League players and members of the “Black Aces” Fergie Jenkins, Vida Blue, J.R. Richard, Mudcat Grant and Al Downing, plus Negro League Star Cleveland Grant will gather at this year's “Smokey” Joe Williams Scholarship Gala event that will benefit the “Smokey” Joe Williams Memorial Fund Scholarship. The “Black Aces” are a group of African-American ball players who have pitched 20 wins or more in a single major league season.

The gala will be held at the Seguin Guadalupe County Coliseum and will include free player autographing, a huge sports memorabilia auction, wine & cheese tasting and heavy hors d'oeuvres.

Tickets for this star-studded gala event are $25 and are available at Seguin City Hall, the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce and KWED/Seguin Daily News. February 4, 2006 (BALTIMORE, MD) - Saturday Movies @ the Library - African American athletes in baseball. The first three films, presented in partnership with the Leon Day Foundation, showcase the struggles and achievements of African American athletes in baseball. At each screening, you’ll have an opportunity to meet and talk with former Negro League players and see the Leon Day Foundation’s exhibit on the Negro Leagues. Wednesday, February 8th and Thursday, February 9th 2006, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at The Village Learning Place, 2521 St. Paul Street (Baltimore). Experience an evening in history with some of baseballs forgotten heroes. Hear their stories and understand why although they played and never got paid, they did it for the love of the game. February 25, 2006 (BALTIMORE, MD) - Baltimore's Forgotten Team: The Elite Giants. Hear directly from former players themselves how Baltimore's Elite Giants affected baseball in the 1940s and '50s. Examine social changes in Baltimore and America through the experiences of black players. 12pm: Only the Ball Was White. 2:30pm: There Was Always Sun Shining Someplace. This program takes place at Sports Legends, and is free with paid admission to the Museum.

February 24 and February 26, 2006 (BIRMINGHAM, AL) - The Alabama Negro League Association (ANLA) announced today that the organization’s Annual Gala Fundraiser will take place Friday, February 24th at the Sheraton Civic Center, an event that kicks off an exciting weekend for Birmingham and the history of Negro League baseball. The event will also showcase a silent auction that will include some baseball memorabilia and other items of interest, with all of the proceeds benefiting the ANLA in its efforts to establish the Negro League Museum, a fitting tribute to some of the game’s unheralded athletes. The banquet (tickets $50) also precedes a national event produced by ESPN Classic.  Confirmed Special Guest: Country Singer – Charlie Pride – Banquet, Parade and Game; Teddy Gentry (from the Group “Alabama”) Banquet – not sure of Sunday; Master P (Rapper)  – Sunday Game Only; Willie Mays – Sunday Game Only; Reverend William H. March 25, 2006 (GAITHERSBURG, MD) - The Greater Washington, DC Black Memorabilia and Collectible Show will be Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 16 Chestnut Street, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. June 3-4, 2006 (NEW YORK, NY) - Negro Leagues baseball is coming to Shea Stadium. Negro Leagues baseball history, that is. A mobile museum exhibit, called "Times of Greatness," will make a stop at the New York Mets' ballpark this weekend. The exhibit focuses on the history of early black baseball players, who couldn't play for white major league teams because of segregation.

June 3, 2006 (MILWAUKEE, WI) - When the Brewers open a ten-game homestand tomorrow, they'll be dressed as the Milwaukee Bears. Yes, Milwaukee Bears. The retro uniforms are a tribute to Milwaukee's entry in the Negro National League in 1923. The Washington Nationals, who will play the Brewers tomorrow, will wear replica uniforms of the Homestead Grays, the Negro League team that played in Washington D-C from 1937 to 1948.

June 10, 2006 (BOWIE, MD) - The Bowie Baysox, Class "AA" Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, host their 5th annual Tribute to the Negro Leagues as the Baysox take on the Binghamton Mets this Saturday, June 10th at 7:05 pm. This annual tribute will feature appearances by former Negro League players who will be on hand to meet fans and sign free autographs for a limited time during the game.

June 15, 2006 (SALISBURY, MD) - The Delmarva Shorebirds, Class-A Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles are hosting the 2nd Annual Negro League Tribute on Thursday, June 15, 2006. The Shorebirds will wear Baltimore Elite Giants Jerseys to raise money for the Shorebirds Scholarship Fund at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  There will be a special pre-game ceremony to commemorate the life of Oriole great, Elrod Hendricks. The evening will also be highlighted by the appearance of five former Negro leaguers: Al Burrows, Joe Durham, Luther Atkinson, Hubert “Bert” Simmons, and William “Sonny” Randall.

June 16, 2006 (MONROE, LA) - The State of Louisiana has approved a historical marker to be erected for the Negro League  Monroe Monarchs. The marker will be unveiled along with plans for a new youth baseball park on June 16th at 5:30 pm CDT, in Monroe, LA at the Liller Maddox Marbles Recreation Center, 2950 Renwick Street. The ceremony will be conducted along with the city of Monroe and Mayor Jamie Mayo. July 18, 2006 (KANSAS CITY, KS) The T-Bones are pleased to announce that the 2006 Northern League All-Star Game will take place at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. August 8, 2006 (PHILADELPHIA, PA) - Hall-of-Famer Baseball slugger Monte Irvin who starred with the Newark Eagles of the Negro Leagues before signing with the New York Giants, where he was a mentor to Willie Mays and a key to the team's National League pennant win in 1951. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973. Irvin discusses his career with Lawrence D. August 19, 2006 (WILMINGTON, DE) - The 11th Annual Judy Johnson Night will be held Saturday, August 19th at the home of the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Delaware). Players in Negro League uniforms. The Leon Day Foundation offers athletic, enrichment and educational programs for inner city youth and families.
