      APRIL 5, 2003 (SEGUIN, TEXAS) - The fourth annual "Smokey" Joe Williams Scholarship Banquet will be held on Saturday evening on April 5, 2003 at the Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum. Seguin, Texas is the hometown of "Smokey" Joe Williams. Special guests include "Red" Moore of the Atlanta Black Crackers and John "Mule" Miles of the Chicago American Giants.       APRIL 5 - SEPT. 21, 2003 (CINCINNATI, OHIO) - Cincinnati Museum of Art features special exhibit ‘Out At Home!: The Negro Baseball League’ depicts struggle, enslavement, and sport in nine lithographs by African American artist Joseph Norman. Norman makes powerful statements on how racism has sullied the game by using the baseball as a metaphor for the players, challenging the viewer to consider the historical backdrop under which black athletes struggled and survived.       APRIL 10, 2003 (MARYLAND) - Baltimore radio listeners should tune to  98-ROCK, (WIYY, 97.9 FM) during the 8:00 AM hour to hear Kirk McEwen, Mark Ondayko, and Lopez interview with Mr. Ernest Burke, former pitcher for the Negro League Baltimore Elite Giants.

      MAY 31, 2003 (MARYLAND) - The Bowie Baysox (Class-AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) are proud to co-partner this event with the NAACP. The Second Annual Salute to the Negro Leagues will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 7:05PM. The Baysox will recognize 6-8 Negro League stars and will honor arguably the greatest Negro League baseball team in history, the Washington, DC Homestead Grays, by wearing replica Homestead Gray jerseys and giving the first 1,500 fans free Homestead Gray caps.   The concourse will be filled with several Negro League displays, memorabilia and exhibits, and  Game-worn replica Homestead Gray jersey silent auctions with funds going to the Negro League Baseball Players Association.       JUNE 6, 2003 (ALTOONA, PA) - Home of the Altoona Curve (Class AA Affiliate of the Pittsburg Pirates). The Negro Leaguers will honored throughout this Friday's matchup between the Curve and Harrisburg Senators as part of Negro League Honorary Night at Blair County Ballpark. The highlight of the 7:05 p.m. contest will see players and coaches from both clubs wearing uniforms representing 18 different teams from the Negro Leagues between 1920 and 1949.       JUNE 7, 2003 (MARYLAND) - 1-4 PM Fifth Anniversary of the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum. Benjamin Banneker, the self-educated Negro mathematician and astronomer assisted in surveying the District of Columbia in 1791 and published the first Maryland Almanac 1792.       JUNE 14, 2003 (BALTIMORE, MD) - The Leon Day Foundation will hold its fourth annual Family Fun Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Leon Day Park, 1200 N. Franklintown Road. The festival will include Little League baseball games, music and an exhibit on Negro League history presented by the Babe Ruth Museum. Day, a Negro League star and Baltimore resident, died in 1995, six days after learning he had been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin P. Clark will be grand marshal of a parade, beginning at 10 a.m. at Alexander Hamilton Elementary, 800 Poplar Grove St., and proceeding to the festival site.

      JUNE 14 and 15, 2003 (MARYLAND, DC, VIRGINIA) - Player signing event at the Negro League Outlet store in the Rivertowne Commons Shopping Center.  Address is 6169 Oxen Hill, Rd., Oxen Hill MD 20745. 6/14 and 6/15, from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Tentative players include: Al Burrows, Mamie Johnson, Ernest Burke, Thomas Revell, and Gordon Hopkins.  Call 1-301-749-9200 for information.

      JUNE 18, 2003 (PHILADELPHIA, PA) - The Phillies will host the unveiling of a Negro Leagues Memorial Statue on Wednesday, June 18 at Veterans Stadium at 4 p.m.  Mayor John Street and the five living members of the Philadelphia Stars Negro Leagues baseball team are scheduled to take part in the ceremony. Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who is serving as an Honorary Chairperson for the committee behind the statue, is also scheduled to attend. The statue was made as a tribute to the players of the Philadelphia Stars. Bill Cash, Mahlon Duckett, Stanley Glenn, Harold Gould and Wilmer Harris are the five living members of the Stars and will be at the unveiling. Read the official press release on our news page.

      JUNE 26 through 29th, 2003 (HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA) - The Harrisburg Young Professionals and the Society for American Baseball Research - Negro League Research Committee present the 6th annual Jerry Malloy Negro League Research Conference June 26-29, 2003 at the Crowne Plaza Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The conference will bring together more than thirty-six of the leading researchers in the field of Negro League baseball history as well as several players. Schedule:

      The conference debuted in Harrisburg in 1998 and has subsequently been held in Atlantic City, Kansas City, Memphis as well as another stint in Harrisburg in 2000. It is hosted annually in a city that formerly was home to a Negro League team. The legendary Harrisburg Giants are the host team this year.

      JULY 30, 2003 (MASSACHUSETTS) - Brockton Rox (North East League).  The Rox salute the Negro Leagues as the Rox players wear throw-back jerseys on this night packed with excitement. Negro League Legends Josh Gibson, Ray Campanella, Satchell Paige, "Cool" Papa Bell, and more will be immortalized at Campanelli Stadium.       OCTOBER 25, 2003 (NEW JERSEY/NEW YORK) -The Greater New York Area Black Memorabilia & Collectible Show will be at the Crowne Plaza Meadowlands Hotel Exhibit Center, 2 Harmon Plaza, in Secaucus, New Jersey from 10am to 7pm.
