Padres Donate Negro League Materials to San Diego PL

June 9, 2006

The San Diego Padres donated 70 books and DVDs on the Negro Leagues to the city’s public library. Included in the gift are the DVD titles They Were All Stars: An Historic Narrative of Negro Leagues Baseball and There was Always Sun Shining Someplace: Life in the Negro Baseball Leagues.

The materials were presented during a May ceremony at the Central Library attended by Hall of Famer Dave Winfield and Negro Leaguers Neale “BoBo” Henderson, and Walter McCoy, both city residents.

The materials have become part of the library’s permanent baseball collection, which sports 3000 books and 300 archival microfilms.
