TOOTS FERRELL Inducted to Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame

This year's inductees to the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame will be recognized during Thursday's Blue-Gold high school senior all-star game at Frawley Stadium. The game starts at 6:30 p.m.; the hall ceremony is scheduled to take place after the fifth inning.


LEROY "TOOTS" FERRELL, a Howard High graduate and standout pitcher in the Negro Leagues who once barnstormed on a team with Jackie Robinson. Ferrell went 6-2 for the Newark (N.J.) Eagles in the summer after he graduated from Howard. He pitched three seasons for the Montreal Royals, the Brooklyn Dodgers' Class AAA team. Ferrell died last year.
