Shelton, 79, an avid sportsman and former pitcher in the Negro League, died Saturday (June 13, 1998) in the Mitchell Campus of Hospice Buffalo in Cheektowaga after a long illness. Born in Great Falls, S.C., he played in the Negro League in the 1930s and early 1940s with the Greenville Black Spinners, the Cleveland Buckeyes, the Guelph Terriers and the Buffalo Giants, and was noted as a good-hitting pitcher. He also played baseball on servicemen's teams while serving in the Navy during World War II. | |
