EDSALL ‘BIG’ WALKER

Born: Sept. 15, 1913

The 6-foot, 215-pound left-handed pitcher had a playing career that spanned from the late 1920’s to 1945

Walker was one of the top left-handers in the game in the early 1940s. In 1940 he had a 10-5 record for the Grays, who won the Negro League pennant. He played on eight of the nine straight Homestead pennant winners.

• 1934 - Zulu Cannibal Giants
• 1935-36 - Albany Black Crackers
• 1936-42 - Homestead Grays
• 1942 - Philadelphia Stars & Newark Eagles
• 1943-44 - Homestead Grays
• 1944 - Baltimore Elite Giants
• 1945 - Homestead Grays

Walker was the starting pitcher for the East sqad of the 1938 East-West All Star game. This was to be his only appearance in the East-West classic.
