ROBERT ‘BOB’ B. THURMAN

Born: May 14, 1917 Kellyville, Oklahoma
Died: Nov 4, 1998 Wichita, Kansas

A former Negro Leaguer and major league outfielder in the 1940s and 50s. Bob spent five seasons (‘55-’59) with the Cincinnati Reds, mostly as a pinch hitter and platoon player.

He began his career in 1946 playing for the Homestead Grays and Kansas City Monarchs.  At age 40 he hit 16 home runs in 199 at-bats, one every 11.9 plate appearances; played 11 seasons with the Santurce (Puerto Rico) Crabs and in 1992 was elected to the Puerto Rican Baseball Hall of Fame.
