Verdell "Lefty" Mathis

One of the great Negro League pitchers who played for the Memphis Red Sox and the Philadelphia Stars.

Lefty was considered by many the best left-hander in the Negro Leagues during the 1940s. While playing in the Negro League All-star games Lefty joined Satchel Paige as the only pitcher to win 2 all-star games.
