JAMES H. ‘LEFTY’ LaMARQUE
Born: July 29, 1921
Died: January 15, 2000

The KC Monarchs’ top left-handed pitcher, had a blazing fastball and a sharp breaking curve. Lefty began his career with the Monarchs in 1941 and remained a stalwart of the staff throughout the decade.

In 1946 he finished with a 7-3 record and led the Monarchs to a pennant winning season. He twice represented the Monarchs in the East-West All-Star Game and led the Negro American League for best ERA in 1948.
