SAMUEL ‘RED’ JONES

Born: Dec. 14, 1925
Died: Nov. 5, 1971

Sam was a big right-handed pitcher who posted a 4-2 record with the 1947 Cleveland Buckeyes. He made it to the majors in 1951 for two games. He returned to the majors for good in 1955 with the Chicago Cubs.

In his first full season with the Cubs he pitched a no-hitter. He had his best season with the San Francisco Giants in 1959, posting a 2.83 ERA and a 21-15 record.  He also won 18 games in 1960.
