Obituary: Louis ‘Sea Boy’ Gillis

GILLIS, SR., LOUIS CHARLES, age 80, of Birmingham, departed this life Thursday, February 3, 2005.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel with burial in Zion Memorial Gardens. Survivors include: daughters, Harriett F. Gillis, Charlotte Nichols, both of Birmingham, AL and Gloria Ann Wright of Atlanta, GA; sons, Louis Charles Gillis, Jr. (Teresa) of Birmingham, AL and Gregory Gillis (Dawn) of Plano, TX. Smith & Gaston Southside directing. Published in The Birmingham News on 2/6/2005.

Note:  Gillis was a Negro League Baseball veteran having played for the Atlanta Black Crackers (1947-1949), House Of David (1949-1950) and the Birmingham Black Barons baseball clubs.
