Former Negro League star of the Kansas City Monarchs, Buck O'neil, was named a Missouri Sports Legend today at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

A bust of the former player and coach was unveiled by none other than Cardinals Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, who paid tribute to the first black coach in the major leagues as an inspiration who was a pioneer for all players of color.

"It's through people like Buck and all the guys that came before us," said Smith, "that gave the opportunity for black players playing today."
